Graphic tutorial #7

photoshop-tutorial:

Step 1.

First of all, you have to choose your 6 pictures. My pictures are from this web site.

After that, you have to colorize each pictures. I’ll use one of my PSDs . Once your pictures are colorized, sharpen and then flatten (Layer>Flatten image). Okay, now you have to put your 6 pictures in one document as it is showed in this tutorial

Step 2.

Once you have your six pictures in one document, you have to choose another picture and cut it out from its background as it is showed in this tutorial. I’ll be using this one. After I cut it out from its background and colorize it. I used one of my PSDs and then I made a new document 500x500 and added a new color fill layer and I filled it with #eee7df. If you don’t understand how to do this, all the details are on the cutting out tutorial

Step 3.

What are you going to do next is put the 6 picture edit on top the other picture. Go to Select>All then go to Edit>Copy. Go back to the other picture with the background and paste it by going to edit>paste. After this, the 6 picture edit should be covering the other picture, so you will want to re-size it by selecting the 6 picture edit’s layer and going to edit>free transform. Re-size and move it by using the move tool until you like how it looks.

Then go to to layer>Flatten image

All done!

photoshop-tutorial:

Before

After

Step 1.

Open up your picture on Photoshop. Colorize, crop and flatten (Layer>Flatten image) then, sharpen.

Once you have colored your picture, it’s time to cut it out. I’ll teach you 3 methods

Masking

1. First of all, make sure to set the foreground color to black and the background color to white.

2. Select the brush tool, for this use a smaller and soft brush

3. Click the Mask Tool (placed in the tool tab) {x} zoom in the screen and with the brush tool, and start painting carefully the part you want to crop, in my case, Emma. The color of the part you are painting will turn to red. If you make a mistake, flip the colors (Set the foreground color to white) and paint over the section.

4. Once you are done panting the subject Press ”Q” on your keyboard. You will see like ” Marching Ants” around the subject, after this, take the Eraser Tool and erase the background. Go to Select>Deselect. All done!

Pen tool

1. Select the  Pen Tool (Placed in the tool tab), and make the first point, go around the subject until you reach the first point you made. Right click anywhere in your picture with the Pen Tool selected and click Make Section, after this a box should appear, set the feather Radius to 2 PX. Go to Select>Inverse. Tafter this, take the Eraser Tool and erase the background. Go to Select>Deselect. All done!

Magnetic Lasso tool

1.  Before starting in the top bar make sure to select frequency to 100 then select theMagnetic Lasso Tool (Placed in the tool tab) and make the first point, and start dragging it along the picture until you reach the first point you made and hit Enter on you keyboard. Then in the same top bar, click Refine edges, just play around the properties  until you are satisfied, this will make your picture look way better.  Then hit erase on your keyboard. After this, your picture should be in a transparent background. Now you can place the picture wherever you want.

I hope this tutorial helped!

Graphic tutorial #6 .GIF

October 21, 2011

photoshop-tutorial:

I worked all day doing this! Hope you like it :)

Please note: This tutorial is confusing, you have to be familiarized with Photoshop, frames, and visibility of layers.

Click {x} to see the examples

Step 1.

Start by making a new canvas (File>New). My canvas is 500px in width and 525px in height. Change the size to whatever you think appropriate, but remember, never make the width bigger than 500px.

Step 2.

Now, open up 2 base images. Colorize, crop, and sharpen. Then flatten (Layer>Flatten image)

Go back to the document, paste the image that you want to be at the top and the image that you want to be at the bottom. {x}

Step 3.

Open up three pictures (for the Blur Slideshow) and re size them to make sure they fit perfectly. Then follow this tutorial {x} on how to make a Blur Slideshow.

Step 4.

Once you are done with your Blur Slideshow .GIF you have to place it in the center of the document.

 Go to window>Animation. After that, the animation bar should appear. You should have only one frame, so click THIS ICON and hit ”Make Frames from Layers” {x}

Now you should have 6 frames in the animation window.

Below each frame you will see a little arrow pointing down, change the speed of the original layers to 0.5 seconds and the duplicated layers to 0.2 seconds Make sure to choose the option “forever”

Click the little icon again and hit ”select all frames”, then click the icon again and choose ”copy frames” {x}

Step 5.

Go back to the document with your two pictures and paste the frames of your first GIF by clicking the same ICON of the animation window and hitting ”paste frames”. This window will pop up. Make sure to tick the option ”paste over selection” {x}.

Step 6.

You will see that all your GIF layers will be at the top of the picture and you don’t want that right? Select all the LAYERS of your GIF  and using the  Move Tool   place the GIF in the center of the document {x}

Select all frames and make visible the layer with your two pictures (Step 2)

Now you have to check the visibility of the layers. In the first frame only the first layer should be visible, in the second frame, should be visible the secondlayer, in the third frame should be visible the third layer.. Did you get it? lol

Your animation bar should look like this {x}

Step 7.

Add this texture and set it to Screen at 100%

Add this texture and set it to Darken at 100% (Film Texture)

Add this texture and set it to Screen at 100% (Text)

Add this texture and set it to Screen at 100%

Add this texture and set it to Soft Light at 100%

Add this texture and set it to Screen at 100% (Border)

How to use textures

October 15, 2011

photoshop-tutorial:

Okay. Actually I’m not the best using textures. I don’t work with textures but I know the basics. This tutorial was requested by finishmeoff. I hope you like it

So, first of all I want to say, that we will be using blend modes, not all then blend modes works for every picture. You have to mess around the settings.

Using Dark Textures: I usually use Lighten and Screen because this will make the texture a little bit lighter.

Using Light Textures: I usually use Multiply and Darken because this will make the texture a little bit darker.

I rarely use Saturation and Overlay but you can try anyway. The key is to experiment, don’t be afraid to play with opacity and blend modes. Be creative.

For this tutorial I’ll be using THIS picture (the picture isn’t colored)

and THISTHISTHIS textures. I’ll post some links where you can download REALLY good textures. There are a lot of talented people.

Now, let’s get started.

Once you have done all the editing (re-sizing sharpen coloring, etc) you can start using textures. I’ll be using 2 dark textures and 1 light texture with a picture with dark background.

TIPS:

-How to re size your texture or picture? Go to image>image size. Or just edit>Free transform.

-If the texture has lines or something that cover your base and you don’t like that, using the eraser tool erase them.

- How to change blend modes? In the layers Palette, you will see ”Normal”. Click the little arrow pointing down.

- How to adjust textures? Using the Move Tool (Make sure you have selected the texture layer)

Step 1. First of all, start opening your picture in Photoshop and the textures you are going to use. Using the Move Tool, drag your texture (or just copy and paste it) on top your picture. In the Layer Palette (x) you will see 2 layers right? You base and your first texture. My first texture is dark, so I set the blend mode to Screen (x). So far, my picture look like this. As I said before, if you don’t like those lines over your base you can erase them by using the  Eraser Tool.

Step 2. Now, I’m going to drag My second texture to my base (Emma). Now you should have 3 layers (base,1st texture, 2nd texture)(x). My second texture is dark, so I set the blend mode of the layer to Screen (x). My result.

Step 3. I’m going to repeat the same step (Drag my texture to Emma). You should have 4 layers in your Layers Palette. My third texture is light so I set the blend mode to Multiply (x) and using the Eraser ToolI am going to erase those horrible lines over the face.

Then, flatten image and you are done

Yes, I know, I am not the best using textures but I just wanted to show you how to use them.

I hope this tutorial helped :)

If you found the tutorial helpful a simple like will be great feedback for me :)

photoshop-tutorial:

submission: Hi, can you post a tutorial how to make the background in a pic sparkly? :)
Answer:
Hello :) Well I don’t know the name but I know how to do that haha.
Okay so first of all you need to download bokeh textures
I’ll use THIS one and I found it HERE
Step 1. Open up your picture and bookeh texture on Photoshop.
I’ll use THIS picture

Step 2. Make sure both layers are unlocked. If they are locked, you will see a little lock next to your layer. To unlock it, just double click the lock>ok.
Now, using the Move Tool drag the bokeh texture onto your picture. If your bokeh image doesn’t fit well, just go to edit>free transform and drag the corners until it fits nicely.

Step 3. Now make sure you are in the ”bokeh layer”. Play around the blending options util you are satisfied. I change the blend mode to Soft light-63%
Not all the blend modes works for all the pictures, so try changing it to screen, multiply, lighten, darken. Just play around the options until you are satisdied

Now your picture should look like this.

If you don’t want the circles over the subject, select the eraser tool and erase them

You will see different results… It depends on the texture you are using

heartnialler asked: Do you know how to do something like this? 30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lrd3cxdDAp1qdwpozo1_500.png

get two pictures that you want to use and open them in photoshop. select the image you want the line to come from then get the crop tool and in the width box above your images put 260 and in the height box put whatever you want, i put 500. and in the resolution box put 1. then select the are you want to be in the graphic then click on the check mark button.
now select the second picture you’re using in your graphic and get the crop tool once again. for the second picture the setting are going to be slightly different. for the width put 250 and for the height once again whatever you like, i put 500. and set the resolution at 1 then crop the image.

now go back to the first image and right click on the layer and click ‘Layer from background’ then go to Image > Canvas size
and if your first image is going to be on the left then click on the first arrow in the second row, and if your first image is one the right then click on the last arrow in the second row.
which ever arrow you select under the drop down menu select pixels and make the width 500.

now go back to the second image and right click on the layer and select Duplicate layer and from the drop down menu select the name of the first image. now that both of yours images are in one file, arrange them how you want them then on the layer palette drag the second image below the first image.

select the first image and lower the opacity to just about 60% so you can see where the second image ends and where you need to cut the first image. now get the rectangle marquee tool and select the area just before the second picture ends then go to Edit > Cut. then put the first image opacity back to 100%

and you should have it done! i hope this helps!

Using Masks To Create a Cutout Effect

October 7, 2011

Mystified by the mask tool? Our quick tutorial shows how to use it to make a cool cutout type effect.

First, the basics: A mask is a grayscale, pixel image that’s attached to a layer in Photoshop. The mask tells Photoshop how much of the layer to display. White pixels on a mask will display at 100%, black pixels at 0%, and grayscale pixels at a transparency.

To show how it works, we’re going to start with Shutterstock image 77850535, by AISPIX. Suppose we want to apply a screen of type between this laughing man and the wall behind him, with the type fading away as it rises toward the top of the image.

First, let’s use the type tool to enter the text we want on the image.

Next, we’ll select our type layer from the Layers pallet and click on the Add Layer Mask button.

To make the next step easier, we’re going to fill our mask layer in with all black (shift-F5). This will turn the type layer invisible for now, but don’t worry, we’ll get it back in a second.

Now we’re going back to our original layer, where we’re going to use the magic wand tool to select the grey background behind the man.

With that selected, we’re going to click on the gradient tool, and make sure it’s set to fade from black to white.

Then, on our layers pallet, we select the mask from our type layer again.

With that mask selected, we’ll use the gradient tool to drag a gradient fill into the background space we’ve selected. Drag from black to white vertically down the page, holding the shift key. That produces exactly the result we were looking for.

Since that type layer is still editable, we can go in and change the color and content of that layer any time we want, without needing to redo our cutout.

And we’re done! Now you know how to use the mask tool to create a fading or cutout effect—without damaging the content of a layer.

Bonus: In regular editing, Photoshop doesn’t show you the mask itself. It only shows what layer looks like with the mask applied. However, you can see and edit the mask itself just by clicking on the mask thumbnail in the Layers panel using Alt-click (Windows) or Option-click (Mac).
